This week has been filled with spider fun! We are starting to wrap up our spider research and will be writing about our findings next week. This week we answered essential questions such as: how do spiders eat and how does a spider not stick to their own web? We conducted experiments to figure these questions out. Here is a picture of the students sucking up their prey. First we learned that spiders inject a solution that liquefies their prey. (We drop water on our sugar cubes.) Then we learned that spiders don't chew their food they drink it up once it is all liquid. (We got out straws to suck up our sugar and water mixture.) Some kids really enjoyed their tasty snack, while others thought it was gross. It may have been just the idea of imagining themselves as spiders drinking up bugs that got them though. :) Earlier in the week we used tape and oil to discover how spiders are capable of walking across webs with ease. I just love how excited these kids are about our spider research! There will be more to come, please stay tuned for our spider finale! :)
